ABSTRACT

Internal audits are often viewed as a compliance requirement rather than a strategic tool for organizational growth. This presentation focuses on how laboratories can leverage internal audits to go beyond compliance with accreditation requirements and drive continuous improvement in technical competence, quality systems and operational effectiveness. The intent of this presentation is to reframe the perspective on internal audits from just a compliance requirement to a powerful mechanism for identifying risks, strengthening processes, and driving continuous improvement.

Participants will learn how performing effective internal audits can go beyond checklist compliance to uncover systematic issues, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities. This presentation will explore practical techniques for audit planning, objective evidence gathering, root cause analysis, and identification/implementation of meaningful improvements and corrective actions. Emphasis will be placed on leveraging audit results to engage staff, improve operational efficiency, and support management decision-making. Attendees will leave with strategies and insights aimed at optimizing the internal audit process.
