ABSTRACT

Environmental laboratories are faced with the challenge of efficient resource utilization to meet accreditation, technical, and operational requirements. Laboratory process development involves organized effort, documented information, personnel competency, overall quality control, and monitoring to meet such requirements. Digitization and automation in key areas can improve quality and efficiency of the processes, however, systematic planning is needed to establish framework that is synchronous and sustainable. A robust quality management system in a laboratory connects quality elements and performance data from one process to another.

This presentation will discuss the importance of closed-loop systems within an environmental testing laboratory. It will review the interconnection of various elements of quality management with laboratory processes and the strategic planning needed to drive continual improvement.
