ABSTRACT

Microbiology group testing, total coliforms, fecal coliforms (thermotolerant), and Escherichia coli (E. coli) are well-known analytical procedures for monitoring contamination of surface water, groundwater, and domestic and industrial wastewater. However, due to its peculiarity to ordinary analytical testing, nearly all microbiology laboratories continue to use inefficient and rudimentary manual recording operations throughout the testing lifecycle, from sample preparation to result readback, and its process data is minimally integrated into the modern LIMS. The good news is that Micro ELN©, an application designed to automate the entire (microbial) process, has been developed recently. Its complete visual designed process is very intuitive and easy to operate. The system is currently live in the CCWRD laboratory and integrates seamlessly with the any LIMS.
After seeing the transformative effect Micro ELN’s visual processes have had in the microbiology lab, we have decided to further improve the automation and visualization for the wet chemistry processes that are also encompassed in the Micro ELN application. Pushing forward, these additions have helped to maintain the goals of paperless data processes that are streamlined with traceability and centralized.
