ABSTRACT
On 24 December, 2008 the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Environment, Safety and Occupational Health) (ADUSD(ESOH)) issued a memorandum establishing the DoD Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (DoD ELAP). The memorandum requires that, Effective 1 October 2009, all laboratories seeking approval to perform testing in support of the DoD environmental restoration programs be accredited in accordance with the requirements of this program.
DoD ELAP replaced component specific programs that were inefficient, redundant and inconsistently implemented. The DoD ELAP has been a major success and has promoted interoperability among DoD Components, as well as fair and open competition among commercial 1aboratories.
