R. Stephen Brown

R. Stephen Brown received his BSc in Chemistry from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He then moved to the University of Toronto to complete M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioanalytical Chemistry. After four years in Montreal in the National Research Council's Environmental Biotechnology group, he moved to Queen's University in 1996, where he is jointly appointed in the Department of Chemistry and the School of Environmental Studies. His group invented new water monitoring technology and in 2003, with colleagues, he co-founded what is now TECTA-PDS to commercialize the technology. His research program covers several aspects of water quality, including effects of oil and other contaminants in aquatic ecosystems and new technologies for monitoring chemical and biological contaminants.
