ABSTRACT
In 2018, the California Senate required the State Water Resources Control Board to develop plans to quantify microplastics in drinking water by 2021 and for the California Ocean Protection Council to adopt and implement a statewide strategy to evaluate the ecological risks of microplastics in marine environments. The California Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program and our partners, Third Party Assessment Agencies/TNI NGABs, will play an integral role in these efforts to inspect/accredit the laboratories to run the microplastics analysis. This oral presentation will walk you through CA ELAP's perspective and journey to help standardize microplastics measurement methods and the path to updating our California ELAP's accreditation offerings for microplastics - where no accreditation program has gone before.
