ABSTRACT
Microplastics are of increasing concern in the aquatic environment. Accordingly, the State of California has passed legislation to take action on microplastic pollution, which includes monitoring for microplastics in drinking water. Accreditation of laboratories to perform analyses for such monitoring is done by the State’s Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program. This presentation details the development of the first accreditation program for microplastics monitoring in the country, using recommendations based on data on methods performance and feasibility from an inter-laboratory validation exercise led by the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project to standardize analyses for microplastics in drinking water.
