ABSTRACT
Punk rock has been all about making music accessible, keeping it to three simple chords, easy lyrics, and the addictive rush of performing for your peers. Heavy metal is all about virtuosity, big hair, and working on the merit of being the best. In science, we have a similar continuum, with inexpensive sensors deployed across large areas for large spatial datasets, as well as spatially isolated, low-population high-precision and cost monitoring sites. Both sides of this spectrum have their supposedly viable reasons for mistrusting data from the other. However, one can be a fan of both punk and heavy metal. Come see how both have their place, and how we can use this belabored musical metaphor to understand how they can work together to get better data in the future.
