The word ‘risk’ is mentioned 17 times in the latest version of the ISO 10725:2017 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. The concept of risk-based thinking has replaced preventative actions and allowed the reduction of prescriptive requirements. However, it has added some confusion and a bit of panic for laboratories as to what type of risk analysis and management is sufficient.
