Andres Campiglia
Dr. Campiglia obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees at the University of Brasilia, Brazil. After receiving his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Florida (1990), Dr. Campiglia returned to Brazil where he joined the Chemistry Department of the University of Brasilia. Five years later, Dr. Campiglia returned to the USA and spent one year as a consultant at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), TN. His first academic appointment in the USA was in 1996 as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he became a tenured associate professor in 2001. In 2003, Dr. Campiglia accepted a faculty position in the Chemistry Department at the University of Central Florida, where he became a full professor in 2008.
The main goal of his research efforts is to advance the frontiers of analytical techniques for the determination of chemicals of environmental, forensic and toxicological importance, research with high intrinsic scientific merit and far-reaching societal impact. During his entire academic career, Prof. Campiglia has secured competitive, peer-reviewed extramural funding from the most prestigious agencies in this country. These include NSF, EPA, NIH, DOE, NIJ and the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI). This level of funding has allowed him to support numerous M.Sc. and Ph.D. Chemistry students, and post-doctoral (post-doc) associates. His current research group consists of seven Ph.D. students and one post-doc.
Prof. Campiglia has published 130+ articles in peer-reviewed journals with approximately 3,000 citations to his name. He has published five book chapters and has participated in more than 100 presentations in peer-reviewed, international scientific meetings. His research accomplishments have been recognized at the institutional level with the 2007 Distinguished Research Award (College of Sciences, UCF) and the 2014-2015 Research Incentive Award (College of Sciences, UCF) and at the state level with Outstanding Chemist of the American Chemical Society Award (Orlando Section, FL) in two occasions, 2009 and 2018.
