Shen-Yi Yang
Ms. Shen-yi Yang currently serves as the RCRA Organic Methods Program Manager and the Methods Team Lead at the U.S. EPA Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery (ORCR), Materials Recovery and Waste Management Division. She has joined the EPA ORCR (formerly the Office of Solid Waste) for more than 25 years. She is currently working with the Methods Team on the Update VI to the 3rd Edition of SW-846, while also providing support to several EPA workgroups for the development of test methods, policies, guidance, and rules for programs use and for homeland security and emergency response events. Prior to joining the RCRA Methods Team, she worked as an environmental protection specialist on hazardous waste listings and delistings.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Yang worked as a project chemist in environmental engineering firms located in Maryland and Florida in support of federal facilities site remediation projects for the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Army Corp of Engineering; as a QA chemist and project coordinator in environmental laboratories; and as a chemist for the North Carolina Department of Nature Resources and Food and Drug Administration. Ms. Yang received a M.S. in soil chemistry from the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL., and a B.S. in soil science from the National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan.
Ms. Yang received numerous scientific awards during her career years. Major awards she received are: the 2005 OSWER Science and Technical Achievement Award for outstanding technical achievement and leadership of the OSW inorganic methods development program; the 2008 EPA Science Achievement Award for Chemistry for her leadership in developing two new analytical methods essential to EPA, DoD and states effort to protect human health and the environment from perchlorate contamination; the 2010 ORCR Scientific and Technical Accomplishment Award; and the 2013 OSWER Science and Technical Achievement Award.
