Edward Askew
After completing my PhD and Post Doctorial work, I went to work for MOBAY Agricultural Division in 1990 as a pesticide analytical chemist. During my tenure at MOBAY, I performed material accountabilities (MAs), which is a FIFRA requirement for certification/recertification of a pesticide.
Since 1995, I have been a manager in two different wastewater laboratories in Iowa and a drinking water/surface water laboratory in New Mexico. In these laboratories, I worked under the 40 CFR 136, 40 CFR 141 and 40 CFR 503 regulations and under the 40 CFR 403 regulations for a municipal pretreatment program.
In 2008 I became a consultant focusing on environmental projects in the water and wastewater arena. These projects have included watershed characterization, wastewater plant pollutant limits and regulatory compliance with the Clean Water Act.
I have served as the chair of the Laboratory Practices Committee for the Iowa Water Environment Association (formally the Iowa Water Pollution Control Association) and sit on that committee at this time. I am currently the chair of the Iowa Water Environment Association Research Committee..
I have been a committee member of Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater for 15 years and the Part Coordinator for Part 4000 for 14 years. Recent awards include the Iowa Water Pollution Control Association Laboratory Analyst award; the IOWATER Professional of the Year (Watershed Testing); the Iowa Governors Award for Volunteerism (Watershed Testing); and the Water Environment Federation, Arthur Sidney Bedell Award for Service to the Iowa Water Pollution Control Association.
