ABSTRACT

There are numerous methods for the various forms of cyanide. What form to measure, why to measure it, and what it actually is can be confusing. Also, cyanide has numerous interferences including creation or destruction of cyanide in the sample bottle, during sample preparation, and during analysis. Some of these interferences are method specific, others are not. This presentation covers EPA approved cyanide methods, what cyanide compounds each method is looking for and actually detects, and potential interferences. Suggesteions for overcoming interferences will be presented.
