ABSTRACT

Energy and water conservation measures can cause harmful water quality deterioration in large buildings. Examples of documented water quality deterioration will be presented, covering risks associated with electronic faucets, heat exchangers and reduced water usage. The role of investigative and operational monitoring sampling in managing microbial (Legionella pneumophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) will be discussed. Then a review of the advantages and disadvantages associated with various sampling protocols and analytical techniques will also be presented.
