ABSTRACT

Monitoring and controlling nuisance odors are a monumental tasks for any wastewater facility. Of all the odors produced, H2S is the most common one that generates complaints. And beyond just complaints, there are citations and penalties to worry about. One way to avoid these is to improve your fence-line odor monitoring system.

Mogden Sewage Treatment Works - the second largest wastewater treatment facility in the UK - upgraded their existing boundary monitoring network to the latest generation of “best in class” Jerome J605 Hydrogen Sulfide Analyzers. The enhanced monitoring capabilities of the J605 are helping to reduce odor at and around the site.

The new analyzer builds on the industry proven performance of its predecessor, the Jerome 631. The J605 has improved accuracy in the single figure parts per billion (ppb) region, critical for nuisance odor monitoring. Its automated sampling and regeneration functions facilitate longer periods of unattended monitoring, as does its onboard data logging, with 20,000 data points capacity, USB connectivity and SCADA interface capability.

The Jerome J605 is in active use by many water treatment and waste management companies as well as regulatory bodies such as the New York State Department of Conservation (NYSDEC), the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
