Bob Shannon
Mr. Shannon has supported radiochemical testing needs for over 25 years. His radioanalytical measurements expertise provides him with a broad-scoped perspective on laboratory operations, quality systems, and their role in environmental radiochemistry projects. He received a bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College in 1982 before spending nearly a decade working with foreign students at the University of Freiburg in Germany. He held several positions with commercial laboratories before taking a job at Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site as deputy manager of Bldg. 559 Plutonium Laboratories and Analytical Services subject matter expert for radiobioassay and radiochemistry. For the last ten years he has worked as a consultant supporting federal and state agencies including EPA, DOE, FDA, USDA, NRC, USGS on projects including: laboratory audits for the EPA and DOE; radiochemistry training for state and federal radiochemists; proficiency testing studies; writing numerous guidance documents and rapid radioanalytical methods for EPA; revising NRC’s Reg. Guide 4.15 to incorporate MARLAP concepts. He has received the Radiobioassay and Radiochemical Measurements Conference Founder’s Award (2003) and ASTM D19 Committee’s Max Hecht Award (2013). He chairs TNI’s Radiochemistry Expert Committee, is Part 7000 Coordinator for Standard Methods, and chairs the ASTM D19.04 Fission and Activation Products Task Group.
