The Technology and Security Behind LIMS in the Cloud

ABSTRACT
As software applications began migrating to the web several years ago, few LIMS offerings moved from the traditional site installation to the hosted, service based, model. This raised the question of the ability of LIMS to exist in a hosted environment at all. Laboratories were left with little information on what really constituted a cloud based LIMS, and other than reduced initial cost of entry, there was little additional information available.
This presentation will outline the major issues associated with a Cloud based LIMS including: The underlying structural and technological differences between site installed and cloud systems, the concerns of data ownership in the cloud, and the security methods in use over the web to protect data.
