ABSTRACT
The use and definition of second sources for laboratory calibrations has been a heated debate topic for the last few years. By examining the best practices from CRM manufacturing to laboratory calibration to identify the benefits and restrictions, we hope to help define the properties, acceptance criteria, and use of second source materials. The use reality of second source materials needs to be taken into account and included into the discussion and definition. The goal of the presentation is to develop a comprehensive realistic picture of second source standards and their usage.
