Dr. Ball is a Research Leader in the Sensor and Communication Systems group of Battelle's Tactical Systems business unit. He has 20 years of experience in the fields of molecular spectroscopy and optical technologies. He currently serves as Project Manager or Technical Lead on a variety of government, commercial, and internal projects related to spectroscopic sensing, including sensor phenomenology studies, technology assessments, spectral library development, algorithm development, and high bandwidth communication systems. His technical background in physics, chemistry, and optics make him ideally suited to lead inherently multidisciplinary projects. Prior to his time at Battelle, Dr. Ball performed post-doctoral research for two years at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics on the detection of reactive, jet-cooled carbon chain and ring molecules by laser spectroscopy. As a graduate student, Dr. Ball conducted laboratory investigations using microwave, millimeter wave, and sub-millimeter wave spectroscopy to probe collision dynamics of atmospheric and interstellar molecules.
