ABSTRACT

Gas Chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry is a powerful analytical technique commonly used in the environmental laboratory. The technique provides rapid qualitative and quantitative data for the screening of hundreds of various trace organic compounds in simple to complex matrices. This presentation describes the basic theory of GCMS and examines potential uses of newer tandem mass spectrometers, also known as "triple quads". Comparison data will be presented.
