ABSTRACT

Hydrocarbon forensics analysis is complex and requires expertise to perform a successful analysis. Forensics analyses are classified into Tier 1, 2 and 3 analyses. Tier 1 consists of Whole Oil Analysis. Tier 2 consists of the sophisticated PIANO analysis, Oxygenates, Alcohols, Alkylated leads, Saturated Hydrocarbon Analysis (SHCs), PAH/APAH and Biomarker Analysis. Tier 3 consists of Isotopic analysis.
This presentation will outline the above mentioned analysis and the pathway to achieving the goals of the project. An example of each process will be discussed and the stepwise approach to forensics analysis. The analytical methods will be outlined for each Tier. A decision tree will be provided from start to finish. Age dating methodologies will also be discussed.
