ABSTRACT

While laboratory professionals are experts in their scientific domains, the lab planning process often remains a complex "black box"—one that can result in facilities that are either too generalized for specific workflows or fiscally over-engineered. This presentation provides a practitioner’s roadmap through the laboratory planning lifecycle, moving from pre-design through commissioning.

Utilizing a project-timeline continuum, we will examine the critical depth-of-inquiry points required at each phase to ensure the resulting facility meets the technical rigors of the science it houses. Attendees will learn how a science-first approach in the early phases prevents common operational pitfalls, ensuring the laboratory is safe, high-performing, and right-sized for its mission.
