ABSTRACT

Real time monitoring techniques are in use nationwide, ranging from in-situ probes providing continuous readout to at line analyzers providing continuous, yet discrete results. Many of these techniques can duplicate results obtained by laboratory instruments, while some may only be useful for process control. We are often asked “how can I get my analyzer approved?” The answer is partly that EPA does not approve analyzers for CWA but instead approves methods. At Standard Methods we have attempted to define minimum requirements for continuous monitoring methods. These requirements will be described.
