ABSTRACT
As concerned citizens/parents and taxpayers we would like environmental monitoring to be frequent and cost effective to protect human health and the environment. Therefore, it is a continuing effort to improve analysis, including the important sample preparation step, to take advantage of improvements in new technology for increased safety, lower costs and compliance with changing regulations. This paper will discuss the types of sample preparation process improvements seen and give examples of solvent reduction approaches historically used.
