ABSTRACT
Community science has a long history of connecting resource managers and researchers with volunteers from the general public. Many of the most successful long-term community science programs have several things in common: shared goals, specialized training, community outreach, two-way communication, and opportunities for collaboration. In this session, learn about the development and maintenance of long-term volunteer monitoring programs from a researcher and community science program manager. Programs discussed will include Illinois RiverWatch, the Sangamon Freshwater Mussel Monitoring Project, and Winter Chloride Watch.
