ABSTRACT

Solid phase extraction (SPE) is crucial yet often laborious and time-consuming in analyzing large volume water samples. While SPE cartridges are commonly used, SPE disks offer superior flow rate and clogging resistance. However, their adoption is limited due to higher costs and solvent volume requirements, as well as compatibility limitations with automated systems.

This presentation introduces a novel SPE Mini-disk that combines the strengths of cartridges and disks while addressing their drawbacks. The Mini-disk achieves high flow rates and particulate tolerance with solvent usage similar to cartridges. Its small form factor with luer connections makes it compatible with cartridge-based automated SPE systems and vacuum manifolds. Results are demonstrated alongside a new automated solid phase extraction system that employs further efficiencies with sample processing.

This innovative approach offers significant breakthroughs compared to conventional cartridge and disk-based extractions. Key design considerations and results will be discussed to highlight these advancements.
