Donald Boesch
Donald F. Boesch is President Emeritus and Professor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. He holds a B.S. in biology from Tulane University and Ph.D. in oceanography from the College of William and Mary. Dr. Boesch has conducted research on coastal and continental shelf ecosystems along the U.S. Atlantic Coast, and in the Gulf of Mexico, eastern Australia, and the East China Sea. His early research involved the application of multivariate analysis of environmental monitoring data. Dr. Boesch has served on numerous committees and boards of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM), including as co-chair of the Committee on Marine Environmental Monitoring and chair of the Ocean Studies Board. In 2010 he was appointed by President Obama as one of seven members of the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Oil Spill and the Offshore Drilling. Recently, he has been engaged in assessing the impacts of global climate change, co-authoring several reports for the Maryland Climate Change Commission, the first and second National Climate Assessment, and the NASEM.
