ABSTRACT

This presentation will cover how the State of California’s Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program harnessed recommendations from an expert review panel to reinvent the program and win back credibility from its Stakeholders. In 2015, an Expert Review Panel was commissioned to conduct an independent, comprehensive examination of the California’s Program. The Panel identified fundamental weaknesses that were hindering the program’s ability to achieve its mission of ensuring the State has access to quality data for use in its public health and environmental decision making. More importantly, the Panel observed that these deficiencies cost the program credibility among key constituencies – notably, the state regulatory agencies that rely on data generated by California's accredited laboratories.
