ABSTRACT
Over the last few years, there has been a great deal of discussion about the different types of tests you can perform for Nitrate testing. There are many options available that are USEPA approved. Many factors should be considered when deciding which test to perform. Method stability, detection limits, hazards to lab staff, and environmental impact of the waste should all be considered when deciding which test is best. The three approved colorimetric methods for Nitrate testing are Cadmium Reduction, Hydrazine Reduction and Vanadium Chloride Reduction (“Easy 1-Reagent”). These three tests will be covered and positives and negatives will be discussed, along with up and coming methods that labs may need to consider in the near future.
