ABSTRACT

Laboratory information management systems (LIMS) have been around for decades, and unfortunately so have failed implementations. In this presentation, Mr. Riese will review six common mistakes that lead to implementation failure and discuss ways for you to avoid them.

As with many IT related projects, LIMS implementations are frequently challenged by technical hurdles, organizational barriers and competing priorities. Surveys have shown that anywhere from 40-75% of IT projects fail to be completed on time and on budget. But there are many projects that are successful and they often have several things in common. Laboratories need to take ultimate responsibility and control of the project rather than abdicating that role to an outside resource. Mr. Riese will provide a straight forward overview of the key issues that laboratories and LIMS suppliers face, and suggest ways to mitigate failure and increase the chances of success.
