Raul Dominguez

Dr. Dominguez earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Stanford University in 1982 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from U.C. Irvine in 1987. After completing a post-doctoral assignment in 1988 at the University of Nevada, Reno, he joined the South Coast AQMD as an Air Quality Chemist in March 1988. Raul serves as a Senior Air Quality Chemist in the agency Quality Assurance Branch where he works on ensuring that federal and state data quality objectives and documentation are satisfied. His role as the QA officer for the laboratory was expanded in 2009 to include assignment as the agency Chemical Hygiene and Laboratory Safety Officer.

Dr. Dominguez joined ASTM International (formerly the American Society of Testing and Materials) Committee D03 on Gaseous Fuels in 1997 and became Chair in June 2003. He served as Chair for 16 of 18 years. In 2015, Dr. Dominguez was appointed Chair of ASTM D22.03 on Ambient Air and Source Emissions and in 2017 assumed the Chair of D22.11 on Meteorology. He was elected to ISO TC146 SC5 on Meteorology in 2021. Raul was elected Chair of ASTM D34 on Waste Management in 2020.

Raul has authored or co-authored several publications, including the contribution of a chapter in the Measurement of Airborne Compounds. He has given a number of presentations to local and national meetings of the American Chemical Society on topics including trace sulfur gas measurement both using laboratory-based instrumentation and with online monitor. Raul is a Fellow of ASTM International and was conferred the ASTM Award of Merit in 2014. This is the highest award offered by ASTM.
