ABSTRACT

Since certain chemical species of tin can elicit acute and chronically toxic responses in humans and other animals in the receiving environment, the characterization of these species is extremely important. While GC-ICP-MS has historically been the instrument of choice, HPLC-ICP-MS offers some advantages over GC-ICP-MS in that it is simple to use, offers fit-for-purpose detection limits and does not require complex derivatization procedures or sample preparation.
In this study, we present methods for the speciation of tin species using HPLC-ICP-MS and describe the method in terms of resolution, accuracy and sample run times.
